WEARABLE CASE STUDY

In wearable design case studies, the first part of the project investigates a new way to connect the electronics circuit by learning the limitation of wearable design in powering and actuating mechanism . In the second project, with the other group member ( Angela Dong, Interaction Designer ), we tested the texture, motion and behavior of the surface attached to user’s wrist to create a device that acts like a creature that stimulate user’s sense according to their different modes.

Case Study  :     Switch / Connection

I explored a connection mechanism that activates when two parts are attached together. My idea is having one side which is going to be attached to clothes so it should be washable, and the other side hold all electronic parts in the device body.

Case Study  :  Behaviour

Nibble is a concept wearable design  that was prototyped and user tested. Nibble imagines a device that helps you manage time by waking you up, notifying when you need to take a rest and alarming you when you set a schedule. Instead of sound-based or visual notification, Nibble uses the quality of sense to communicate like how your pet nibbles on you.  This project explores the sense of tactile surfaces of wearable device attached to a wrist through prototyping the experience with different kinds of material to simulate various textures.  Moreover the texture’s motion was prototyped with electronics.

WOODPECKER

What if your data is sonificated to turned into a piece of sound that tickles your ears rather than pop up as a notification? This project investigates new types of objects and interactions that communicate through sound. I focused on exploring the quality of sound in user experience on many different levels, contexts and approaches.

INSPIRATION

Woodpeckers have different drumming behavior patterns according to their condition and situation. They communicate and alarm each other by creating certain rhythms by pecking woods and this interesting animal led me to create the objects that turns data from the user to rhythm patterns.

TREASURE

ONE TREASURED OBJECT FOR ANOTHER
We believe that we are all caretakers of objects in our lives, and everyone has an emotional attachment to those objects. The extent of our emotional attachment and the story behind the objects determine the object’s value. Our valuation process defines this value and aids in the exchange of one treasured object for another.
